Carlos Octavio Scoppa graduated from the National University of La Plata (UNLP)
with a degree in Geology in 1964 and received his PhD in Natural Sciences from the
same university and from the University of Gent (Belgium) in 1974. He chairs the
National Academy of Agronomical and Veterinary Sciences, is Honorary Advisor to
the Secretariat of the Environment and Sustainable Development of Argentina, and
Chairman of the Council of the Natural Resources Research Center of INTA.
He coordinated INTA’s “National Soil Identification and Classification Program”
between 1976 and 1988 and was Full Professor ad honorem of Soil Survey at the
School of Graduates in Agricultural Sciences and Soil Taxonomy of the National
University of the South. He was also a member of the Honorary Advisory Committee
of the National Renewable Resources Program of the Secretariat of Sciences and
Technology of Argentina (SECYT) as well as advisor to the National Scientific
and Technical Research Council – CONICET – which he represented at the Natural
Resources Research Center of the Semi-arid Zone – CERZOS – between 1980 and
1984. Mr. Scoppa was a member of the Honorary Executive Committee of the A-1 12
PH1-11 Project “Hydrology of Basins with Undefined Borders” of the International
Hydrological Program – UNESCO -. He has lectured at over 46 national and
international meetings.
